Crank It! Studios Logo

Process

This project involved creating a logo for the newly-created independent record label, Crank It! Studios. I tried to incorporate the garage, rock-style nature of the label, as they often record and sign hard rock artists. The label asked to include a caricature-like mascot for their label, that would be easily recognizable and emphasized the 'loud' nature of the music they record.

First, I looked at various images of other famous recording studio logos, to get a sense for what recurring elements are present in recording studio's logos.

I also looked at stock images of logo designs and recording equipment, to gain further insight into my final logo design.

Searching for cartoon robots who were either listening to music or gave off a friendly, inviting vibe in its appearance and presentation was a crucial part of my research, as the label specifically desired for a robot mascot within their logo.

After a variety of rough and polished mockups (pictured here), the logo's stylistic appearance was agreed upon. The logo features a round, record-like appearance with the record label's name and location with two stars, a common symbol of the state of Texas. The center features a happy, 'rockin' robot, who's powered by a crank (located on the right side of his face), listening to loud music on his large headphones.
